Job Description Job Description Chief Estimator Chief Estimator Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Chief Estimator to lead our estimating department and oversee the development of accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in public works and pre-construction activities, along with strong leadership abilities to mentor and guide junior estimators. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the financial success of our projects by providing precise cost estimates and effective risk assessments. Key Responsibilities Lead the estimating team in preparing detailed cost estimates for projects. Conduct take-offs and analyze project specifications to develop accurate budgets. Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders during the pre-construction phase to ensure feasibility and alignment with project goals. Review and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitiveness and compliance with project requirements. Oversee the preparation of tender documents and ensure timely submission of proposals. Implement value engineering strategies to optimize project costs while maintaining quality standards. Perform risk assessments to identify potential cost impacts and develop mitigation strategies. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry trends that affect estimating processes. Manage contract administration and ensure compliance with GSA and DSA standards. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior estimators, fostering their professional development. Qualifications Proven experience as a Chief Estimator or Senior Estimator in the construction industry. Strong knowledge of take-offs, cost analysis, and pre-construction processes. Experience in K-12 and other public works projects. Excellent skills in quantity takeoff, budgeting, and tendering. Ability to conduct risk assessments and develop effective mitigation plans. Proficient in construction management and project management principles. Strong negotiation skills and experience in contract administration. Knowledge of building codes and compliance requirements. Experience in educational and civic project estimation is a plus. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with an ability to mentor junior staff.
