Job Description:

The Payroll Director will be responsible for creating and driving the strategy to enhance the capabilities of payroll through systems, compliance, and technological opportunities. They will also oversee the weekly and bi-weekly disbursement of a multi-state payroll, including garnishments, benefits, and taxes to over 8,000 employees consistent with federal/state/local wage and hour laws. The ideal candidate will have experience leading a payroll department; have strong problem-solving experience, and great aptitude for and knowledge of cutting-edge payroll platforms and solutions in the restaurant industry.Overall Responsibilities and Duties

  • Serve as point person and resident expert regarding legal requirements and government reporting regulations relating to payroll, payroll tax, garnishments and new state, federal and local laws.
  • Support the regulatory and compliance function of the company through pay practices oversight, review, and audit.
  • Maintain Company compliance with local, state, and federal laws through review of pay practices, time tracking, pay statements and exception reports.
  • Critically review and analyze current payroll, benefits, and tax procedures in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best practice operations and to make any recommendations for system enhancements and process improvements to drive improved accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ensures all deductions, earnings, taxes, etc. are set-up correctly in Workday for payroll processing and for W2 reporting.
  • Ensure payroll transactions are properly classified and in compliance with general accounting principles and audit requirements.
  • Audit W-4s, payroll balance sheets, quarterly and annual filings (completed by third party administrator or CPK) and completes and files any quarterly or annual filings not handled by our tax administrator/partner.
  • Communicate actively with restaurant managers, the People team, Accounting, and IT to review cross-departmental impacts and reconcile data sharing.
  • Provide rigorous analysis of the overall process by reviewing, auditing, and analyzing the pay practices and payroll accuracy of each restaurant.
  • Actively supervise the Payroll Manager and provides guidance, and mentorship to the payroll team to help them resolve issues and achieve goals.
  • Present payroll and benefits analytics, GL/Accounting reports, trending updates and customized reports on a regular basis to senior management/departments and on an as needed basis.
  • Actively seek out and implement new systems and processes that ensure continuous improvement in accuracy, efficiency, and service levels to maximize business growth and opportunities.
  • Develop and review payroll system/platform to ensure that processes, data fields, and reports are built correctly into the system, and suggest/implement redesigns and improvements as needed and ensure the platform is in full legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensures systems are in place to audit the maintenance and processing of employee data records to ensure data integrity.
  • Promote the company culture by encouraging open communication and teamwork.Education, Training, and Work Experience
    • 10 or more years of payroll experience.
    • Experience with Workday required.
    • Experience processing payroll for more than 8,000 employees.
    • Experience processing multi-state payroll.
    • Experience working in a close team environment and providing project management/leadership for various projects and initiatives.
    • Experience in restaurant, hospitality or retail industry preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
      • Strong leadership and supervisory experience required.
      • Extensive knowledge of garnishments, wage and hour laws, payroll rules and regulations and legal compliance practices.
      • Expertise in payroll best practices and ability to explain fundamentals to individuals at all levels within the organization.
      • Strong work ethic with ability to work in a collaborative manner.
      • Ability to show strong initiative while working independently and as part of a team.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
      • Willingness to communicate openly. The current salary range for this position is USD $150,000 to $165,000.Various benefits are available for this position, including 401K, health, dental, vision, and disability insurance through CPK's designated providers. CPK regularly reviews its benefits offerings and may change benefits and providers from time to time. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to computer terminals. The noise level and temperature is moderate. The employee has the ability to sit, stand and/or walk for up to 10 hours a day. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, bend or kneel, lift up to 80 lbs. and perform other diverse physical tasks as needed. The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
