industrial professionals.POSITION SUMMARY: The Materials & Color
Developer is responsible for managing the development process of
quality and color for assigned materials, from concept through
production hand-off, in accordance with end-user needs, corporate
standards for quality, consistency & functionality, while meeting
price, minimums, sourcing strategies and exceeding customer
expectations. The ideal candidate will be highly organized,
detailed, and action orientated, with the ability to be flexible
and manage a large workload in a fast-paced environment, always
looking to streamline processes and consolidate overlapping
materials.RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and commercialize fabrications to meet target product
cost and expected performance.
- Continually support material innovation by providing technical
direction for construction, technologies, applications, processing,
dyeing, printing, and finishing techniques.
- Commercialize materials in accordance with established
standards, manage and maintain 3 rd party raw material test reports
and FDS
- Support objective to ensure materials are engineered to meet
intended end use and quality requirements, through our testing and
validation process (testing through raw materials, garment, and
field testing).
- Support to commercialize materials for compliance with
applicable government regulations (NFPA, ANSI, EN standards,
country specific regulations, etc.).
- Maintain accurate record keeping and tracking of fabric
development in data base and established trackers, as well as for
ISO compliance and reference.
- Maintain library and data base of commercialized fabric.
- Collaborate with HK Sourcing Team and suppliers throughout
commercialization to manage fabric deadlines on multiple project
timelines and update internal team regularly on status of seasonal
commercialization.
- Support cross functional teams with technical information
related to fabrics, technologies and related applications.
- Participate in product meetings to coordinate actions and
mitigate project risks with additional associates and business
partners as needed
- Manage the color development process, in partnership with our
Sourcing Team, executing all development lab dip approvals for
fabrics and trims.
- Understand and utilize the light box and to assure color
accuracy, consistency, and harmony.
- Maintain color trackers to meet seasonal deliverables and
provide status updates to cross-functional teams.
- Support to order and maintain organization of corporate color
standards; both physical swatches and QTX files.
- Support on special projects related to product category or
department objectives
- Domestic and overseas travel, as needed
- Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:To perform the job
successfully, an individual should have the following credentials:
- Related Degree from an accredited University and/or combination
of education and fabric and color development experience
- Working experience in executing all levels of development
process, with a solid understanding of the fabric production
process in a manufacturing environment or factory
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in technical,
high-performance fabric development role(s)
- Innate ability to see color discrepancies, able to achieve
"Superior Color Discrimination" rating on Farnsworth Munsell 100
Hue Test.
- Knowledge of dyes and dyeing techniques for varied fiber
contents and fabric structures, and their influence on color
appearance.
- Knowledge of industry's fabric and color testing
standards.
- Experience working with hardlines materials, such as plastics
and composite materials, is a plus
- Working for a technical brand and understanding of extreme
environment test methods is a plus
- Extensive computer experience including, but not limited to,
Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.
- Experience in Adobe Illustrator is preferred
